Rep. McBride Joins as Original Co-Sponsor of the Bipartisan Protecting the Right to Organize Act
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today Delaware’s Congresswoman Sarah McBride joined her colleagues in reintroducing the bipartisan Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act) in the 119th Congress. The PRO Act expands and strengthens protections for workers’ right to organize a union and bargain for higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions.
“When I was elected, I promised Delaware workers that I would sign onto the PRO Act and fight for worker protections in Congress,” said Congresswoman McBride who was joined by Delaware State AFL-CIO President Nelson Hill to celebrate the reintroduction of the PRO Act. “As the cost of living continues to rise and wages remain too low, the PRO Act will empower workers to stand together to make sure that working people get their fair share of the wealth they create.”
“Delaware workers are excited to have legislators like Sarah that have their back and know she will continue the fight to build an economy that works for everyone,” said Delaware State AFL-CIO President Nelson Hill.
The PRO Act is a comprehensive proposal to protect workers’ right to unionize and bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. It also would crack down on employers who mistreat workers by holding employers accountable for violating workers’ rights, authorizing meaningful penalties, facilitating initial collective bargaining agreements, and closing loopholes that allow employers to misclassify their employees as supervisors and independent contractors. Finally, the PRO Act would also secure free, fair, and safe union elections by preventing employers from interfering in union elections, prohibiting captive audience meetings, and requiring transparency from employers during union elections.
