Rep. McBride Supports War Powers Resolution

March 5, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Sarah McBride (DE-AL) issued a statement ahead of the war powers resolution vote in the House:

“This president has pushed our country into a war of choice in the Middle East based on misrepresented intelligence, changing objectives, and no clear exit strategy. This president is putting American lives at risk and diverting a billion dollars a day from needs here at home in pursuit of a reckless and illegal military operation.

"I am voting for the Khanna-Massie War Powers Resolution because I believe this war is wrong. But regardless of the merits of the mission, the Constitution is clear: the power to take our nation to war belongs to Congress. That safeguard exists for a reason — to prevent reckless decisions that put American servicemembers’ lives at risk without a clear national purpose. And now six U.S. servicemembers have lost their lives while Trump’s illegal war rages on.

"Everyone in Congress agrees that the Iranian regime is evil; the same was true for Saddam Hussein, but that didn’t make military action in Iraq smart or responsible. This Administration is repeating the mistakes of past wars—upending diplomacy, shifting justifications, rash-decision-making, unclear objectives, and no credible plan to protect troops, minimize civilian death, or prevent regional escalation.

"The American people and I are done with forever wars – and our government should be, too."
